Hearst Castle

The charming village of Cambria Pines by the Sea (Cambria) is located on California’s Scenic Highway 1 about 25 miles south of the famous California Big Sur Coastal Highway on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

From Cambria it is about 230 miles to San Francisco or Los Angeles on Highway 101.

Cambria is surrounded by a rare Monterey Pine Forest.  While the forest is itself majestic and lovely to view, it also contains many wonderful hiking trails.  Hearst Castle, California’s most visited state property, is situated about 6 miles north of the Airbnb Apartment.

Within a 25 mile radius from the Apartment there are over 100 Wineries located  in Cambria, Harmony. Templeton and Paso Robles.

For the super wine enthusiast there is another wine making district to the south in San Luis Obispo.

About 12 miles north of the Apartment there is a large Elephant Seal Colony.  Over 5,000 pups are born on the beach between mid-December and mid-February.  For nature enthusiasts this is a perfect time to visit the Central Coast. There are animals on the beach most of the year  as they come in to molt in the spring and summer, then come back to give birth and mate in the winter.  http://www.elephantseal.org

The Central Coast is a prime cyclist’s venue.  There are a number of major bicycle races that come through the area and cyclists are always to be found wending their way along the scenic byways.  Bring your bike or rent one here.  We will work with you to store your precious bike in our garage.

We have a wonderful farmers’ market on Friday afternoons from 2:30 to 5:00 pm  (5:30pm in the summer).  Fun to taste the local produce and purchase some for your picnic.  http://www.cambriafarmersmarket.com
